You can be a part of the design process! There are two sides of this piece, four portraits total, and we are looking for ideas! Help the artist by sharing your thoughts. You can email Sarah at the Arts Council at sarah@artsneworleans.org, or the artist directly at brendonart@gmail.com
Some questions you can help answer include:
•In public art I think it’s important to see…
•Examples of people I would enjoy seeing in this public art are…
•When I hear the phrase “living with water” I think of… (images, feelings, stories?…)
The final artwork will be made of metal, with portraits broken into sections. Watch this animation to get a sense of how it works.
When looked at from a certain angle, each portrait comes together. This explores the idea of how we are woven together within a community, even though we are also separate individuals and different generations.
The imagery of holding the vessel is intended to symbolize the beauty, challenges, and sacredness of living with water, and how different generations share the results of our decisions today. Our actions are literally becoming the circumstances for upcoming generations. How can we support a climate where everyone can flourish?
